Anyway, since we arrived here around 2 pm, we decided to just explore the city a little. Initially, it was a little hot and crowded and reminded us of our experiences in Koln, but as we ventured further into the old town, we started to enjoy Munich a little more. As we walked along a pedestrian walkway, we encountered several beautiful churches.
After a little more walking we entered Marienplatz and were treated to a view of the famous glockenspiel of Munich, but unfortunately our timing was a little off to see it in action.
While in the square, we also had a random encounter with what appeared to be a Kasachstan film company filming a movie or television show.
A short distance from Marienplatz is the Victuals Market, a daily farmer’s market, where we had an amazing bratwurst. We spent a few moments wandereding through the rest of the market. It has a interesting variety of different stalls and shops.
Our next stop was the English Garden where we got to watch river surfing (yes, that is a thing in Munich), and spend some time relaxing in this beautiful park. It was a nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the city.
Our final destination was the Hofbrauhaus Beer Hall, originally built in 1589. We shared a giant pretzel. I had a beer (non-alcoholic of course), and Jenny had a beer mixed with Sprite. Watching her face as she tried to consume a half-liter of a concoction she clearly didn’t like was absolutely priceless.
