Day 10: Hohenschwangau (Eric)

Day 10: June 6th, 2019. We have arrived in the magical town of Hohenschwangau. If you’re not familiar with the name, you might recognize the name of the more famous castle that is just up the hill from our hotel, Neuschwanstein. And if you still don’t recognize the name, here is a picture.

It is the fairytale castle that is frequently photographed and one of the most visited spots in all of Germany. After spending half a day here, I can see why. The area itself is absolutely gorgeous, and periodically you glance up and you can see not just the castle above but also Hohenschwangau Castle.

We are visiting both of these castles tomorrow. Today, we took an hour and a half hike around a beautiful alpine lake periodically catching a glimpse of one or both of these majestic structures. With that, I will let the pictures do the talking for me.

After a tasty meal at our hotel, Hotel Alpenstuben. We decided to venture out one more time to walk around the small town. Even though it was raining, we still enjoyed seeing the castles along our stroll past quaint alpine houses and flower-filled meadows. We even startled a badger as we walked through one meadow. Here are the pictures from this walk (we weren’t fast enough to get pictures of the badger - sorry to disappoint).

More from this magical place tomorrow...
