Day 22-25: West Bloomfield MI (Eric)

Day 22-25 (June 20-23, 2021): The drive to West Bloomfield was a little longer than we wanted to complete in a day, so we had a one-night stopover in Dunkirk, New York, a small town on the coast of Lake Erie. The town ended up being more fun than we expected as we found a lakefront restaurant that had live music. We had some decent food and hung out to listen to the music for a little while and admired the views of the lake.

The visit to West Bloomfield and my brother’s family was relaxing and a lot of fun.

The last time we visited the area was in 2017, and we spent a wonderful time with the entire family, took some pictures at a local park called Marshbank Park, and even watched the Astros take on the Detroit Tigers.

This visit was a little different as Alesia was in California visiting her grandparents, my mom and stepdad. It was unfortunate not to be able to see her as she just graduated high school. During the day, my brother had to work, Fumiyo was tutoring online Japanese students, Arvid was building a database as a job for Michigan State, and Tyler went to tennis camp. They’re a busy family which actually ended up being for the best as we needed some time to get some school work done, rest a little, and do some laundry. I know, not very glamorous as far as travel adventures go, but it was another nice break from the go-go-go of the previous weeks. In the evenings, we did get together for dinners, going out for Mexican one night, Tyler cooked a wonderful curry dish the next night, and we brought over takeout Chinese on our last night. We also played some fun games, Chinese checkers, Five Crowns, and a game called Telestrations (imagine the game telephone blended with Pictionary). This was all great fun. It was great to catch up with the family (except of course Alesia). We in fact had so much fun that I forgot to take a picture of all of us to post on this blog. In fact, the only picture I took while in West Bloomfield was a selfie of Jenny and me at the same Marshbank Park we visited four years ago.

Despite the lack of photographic documentation of the visit, it was definitely a highlight of our travels to catch-up with my brother and his family after the craziness of this past year.
